The company used its experience in the amusement industry - not to mention its considerable wealth - to develop some innovative casino games and SYNKROS, a casino management system for operators. Successful companies often seek to diversify, and this is exactly what Konami did with its venture into the casino market in 1997. Frogger, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Track & Field were all Konami hits, and the company's earnings had grown to $300 million in 1991. Following its first coin-operated video game in 1978, it released a string of global successes during the 1980s, with many of them becoming staples of every kid's game collection. The company was small, but it saw the big future that gaming had. Its three founding members Kagemasa Kozuki, Yoshinobu Nakama, and Tatsuo Miyasako took the first two letters of each of their last names to form Konami Industry Co., Ltd. Konami's name may appear unusual, but when we find out where it comes from, it starts to make sense.
